The Panebianco family history stems from the town of Linguaglossa, Sicily. Migrating to Australia during the 1950’s brought much passion, hard work and determination to create a piece of the old country here in Australia.
John Panebianco, son of Salvatore & Alfia, opened his first business with his brother in 1982 on Norton St, Leichhardt importing only the finest Italian products to make fresh gelato daily on the premises.
Throughout the early 1990’s, the business experienced rapid expansion and began supplying their quality gelato to over 50 restaurants, café’s and function centres across Sydney. Throughout this time, the Panebianco brothers opened a gelato shop in Brighton-Le-Sands, as well as an Italian café in Leichhardt as the two prime locations for customers to purchase their popular Italian desserts.
John’s passion for the hospitality industry was not only limited to the gelato business. In 1995, he ventured on his own journey by opening an Italian restaurant in Brighton-le-Sands called The Onion Tree, specialising in wood fired pizza.View Bianco Kitchen Menu
In 2004 after undergoing a transformation, The Onion Tree was re-opened as Gecko Restaurant. After winning numerous awards and gaining popularity in the local area for its modern take on Mediterranean cuisine, John still believed there was more he could bring to the area to show his passion for real Italian food.View Bianco Kitchen Menu
